What happened
Bummer set out to make underwear something people chose, not just replaced. In a category dominated by plain, multipack basics, it used loud prints, breathable fabrics and a cheeky brand voice, sold mainly online.
Underwear is a repeat purchase with low return rates once customers find a fit they like — attractive economics for a direct-to-consumer brand if it can win the first order. The founder later told afaqs! that revenue grew roughly five times after the show and that Google searches and social activity spiked.
On Shark Tank India Season 1, Bummer closed a deal of ₹75 lakh for 7.5% equity. The equity portion implies a valuation of about ₹10 crore for the business.

the lesson
A boring, frequently bought category can be re-energised by brand personality — and repeat purchase makes the first sale worth fighting for.
Apply it to your business
- 1Look for everyday categories where nobody has built a fun brand.
- 2Design products for repeat purchase once a customer finds their fit.
- 3Prepare inventory and website capacity before a big visibility moment.
